Rocky vs Canelo is a hard fight for me to predict and discuss for that matter. Growing up in Liverpool and only coming into boxing as a 16 year old, I looked up to Rocky Fielding as he made his rise through the pro ranks, winning the Matchroom Boxing Prizefighter tournament in explosive style that put him on the map.
I’ve seen Rocky Fielding box countless times, I’ve even bought tickets off him before I started writing about boxing for his fights. We grew up 10 minutes apart from each other, so will I be bias towards Rocky? Maybe. Will I be rooting for him come fight night? Definitely.
Rocky has to control the ring to win. He has to utilise his range and work behind his excellent jab. I feel catching Canelo coming in with uppercuts will also be a key factor to whether or not Rocky wins the fight.
Fielding can bang. And I would argue he will be the biggest puncher Canelo has faced. A stiff jab, solid crisp combinations and movement prior to the second phase of attack are the keys to victory for Rocky, along with a watertight defence.
Canelo is a tremendous fighter, simply one of the best out there and realistically it’s hard to see past him.
If Canelo neutralises the range early on, it could be a long night for the Champion from Liverpool. That is the key to Canelo winning the fight along with work to the body, and movement on the inside. Canelo has all the tools in regards to footwork, lateral movement and reflexes to dominate possibly anybody in the world on the inside at Middleweight, but can he do it at Super Middleweight? Only time will tell.
It’s a big ask for Rocky Fielding, but one punch can change everything in boxing and Rocky has one punch knockout power at Super Middleweight. I feel that he’s being written off far too easily by people who haven’t studied him as a fighter in depth. From someone who’s watched Fielding since his pro debut, he definitely has a fighting chance.
The smart money would of course be on Canelo as he possesses great movement, punch variation and speed which ultimately make him one of the pound for pound best. It will be a great fight and I believe it will be a competitive one.
