Vargas v Manzanilla & Machado v Cancio: An Explosive World Title Double-Header

A double header co-headline comes to us this Saturday night in an action packed show from Fantasy Springs Casino, California. Two undefeated fighters Rey Vargas and Alberto Machado are in World Championship competition in defences of their respected world titles. First up is Machado 21-0 (17) making the third defence of his WBA World Super-Featherweight Title against the tough and battle hardened Andrew Cancio 19-4-2 (14). Machado who follows a famous line of fighters hailing from San Juan, Puerto Rico will be looking to put on an impressive show to better his chances of a super show down with the divisions top contenders Gervonta Davis and Miguel Berchelt. Last time out Machado blitzed Yuandale Evans in the opening round displaying his evident power and moves into this fight looking to make it a successful fourth defence of his title he won in a vacant dual coming from behind on all three cards to stop Jezzrel Corrales in eight rounds back in October 2017. He could find it tough though as Cancio seems a decent sort holding wins over Rocky Juarez albeit 6 and a half years ago and in the last few years world ranked Rene Alvarado. Worth mentioning is he also took Joseph Diaz (who appears on the undercard) nine rounds before eventually coming up short and being stopped on his feet.

Machado KO'ed Yuandale Evans in the opening round

Co featuring in the main event is undefeated WBC World Super-Bantamweight Champion Rey Vargas 32-0 (22). Vargas more known on these shores for winning the vacant title back in 2017 outpointing Doncaster’s Gavin McDonnell, makes the fourth defence of his title against big punching Columbia based Franklin Manzanilla 18-4(17). Manzanilla comes off a very impressive win over former interim WBC Super Bantamweight Champion Julio Ceja in his last outing and clearly means business leading into Saturday. Vargas though is a classy operator and he himself will be looking to put on a show at the hope of a unification with Countryman and WBO Champion Emanuel Navarrete as the other champions in the division Daniel Roman and TJ Doheny seem to be on a collision course of their own with each other in the near future. Exciting times in the Super Bantamweight Division.

As mentioned above Joseph Diaz 27-1 (14) appears on the bill and is the pick of the undercard action. He looks to bounce back after agonisingly missing out WBA World Featherweight Title despite outpointing Jesus Rojas as he came in a half pound over championship limit weight.
