Kieran Smith defends his WBC International Silver title against Ivan Montero on Saturday in Glasgow.
MTK are putting on the card at the Emirates Arena which will include several up and coming Scottish fighters, and Smith is expecting a great fight,
"I see the fight being a good one with Montero being just as big as me. It could make for an entertaining fight, one which I win convincingly!" "I have seen some video footage of him and anytime he has come up against anyone of any high stature he has crumbled. Which I believe will happen once again Saturday night."
Smith had been due to take on fellow Scot, Michael McGurk in a highly anticipated bout, McGurk unfortunately suffered an injury a couple of weeks out. Smith says he is over the disappointment of the fight falling through. "I was disappointed to hear McGurk pulled out." Smith explained.
"A bit of time had went into tactics of beating McGurk well. Once the opponent was changed and confirmed I forgot about the McGurk fight. Full focus is on this fight and making sure I retain my title on Saturday in which I believe to be a harder test than McGurk was for me."
I asked if we could see the McGurk fight at another point.
Smith was adamant, "No the fight won’t happen now, had his chance, thats gone."
Smith tells his fans what to expect from him on Saturday. "Fans can expect a classy boxing performance from me on Saturday night, and if it gets messy be sure I’m ready for whatever."
Come Saturday Smith will have defended the WBC International Silver title on a couple of occasions. Is he looking to push up the WBC rankings or title fights? Smith is happy to leave the decisions to his management. "I win on Saturday then MTK do there job and tell me who and where I fight next." Smith said. "That's there job to get me the best opportunities they feel I am ready for. My job is to box and keep winning."
